A Family Dream Takes Root

My father and mother, Nunzio and Sara Amante, saw an opportunity for our family—and they took it. What is now Bob's Pizza began as a modest breakfast and luncheonette with only two tables, just enough to seat four customers.

My parents didn't speak English and had a very hard time communicating with anyone, so it was up to my sisters and me—Bob Amante—to help with customer service, speaking to distributors, and handling day-to-day interactions. We would go to school during the day and come home to work each evening. My sisters served tables while I helped my mom and dad in the kitchen.

As we started to grow, we gradually added pasta and pizza to the menu. As the business took off, my father and I sought jobs in other restaurants to gain knowledge and learn the ropes—since we didn't have any formal experience in the restaurant industry. Days turned into weeks, weeks into years, and before we knew it, our small family business was thriving.
